Our Watch is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Board Director, Ms Hutch Hussein.
Currently the Senior Manager, Government Relations, Community Programs with social justice not-for-profit the Brotherhood of St Laurence, Ms Hussein has a wealth of experience accumulated through more than 25 years of working to progress gender equality.
Her extensive experience in cross-cultural strategy, consultancy and training will be especially important to add even more depth and knowledge to Our Watch’s work.
Our Watch Chair, Moo Baulch, said the organisation is delighted to have someone as highly capable and experienced as Ms Hussein to join the Our Watch Board.
“Hutch’s appointment is an excellent complement to the existing skills already around our boardroom table,” Ms Baulch said. “Her extensive knowledge in cross-cultural responsiveness and capacity building, and her in-depth understanding of gender discrimination and workplace sexual harassment will be a significant asset to the Our Watch Board.”
Ms Hussein said she was honoured to be able to contribute.
“As someone who has worked and volunteered in advancing gender equality for over two decades, from supporting women escape family violence as a young social worker to being a policy adviser on Victoria’s initial whole of government ‘Women’s Safety Strategy’ to managing programs supporting primary prevention in refugee communities at the Brotherhood of St Laurence, I’m honoured to be able to contribute to the evidence-based, research-driven work Our Watch does to prevent violence against women and their children,” she said.
“To work with other board members, as well as Our Watch’s CEO, Patty Kinnersly, is a great opportunity to help bring real change and eradicate all forms of violence against women.”
Ms Hussein’s appointment comes after Sherryl Garbutt OAM steps down after more than seven years as an Our Watch Board Director.
“We thank Sherryl sincerely for her significant contribution to both Our Watch’s work and the governance of the organisation,” Ms Baulch said.
“Sherryl has been one of our foundational board members and we are grateful for the valuable expertise and strong commitment she has brought to the Our Watch board since 2015.”
