From messaging to meaning: Embedding gender equality in TAFE communications

Communication plays a central role in shaping culture across TAFE environments. The language used in classrooms, policies, marketing, and everyday interactions can influence what is seen as acceptable, expected, and valued.

This makes communication an important lever for advancing gender equality and preventing gender-based violence.

About this webinar

This session explores the Communications domain of the Respect and Equality in TAFE model, offering a practical lens for reflecting on current communication practices. Presentations will explore how language and messaging can unintentionally reinforce or challenge gender stereotypes and bias, and consider how more inclusive approaches can better reflect the diversity of TAFE communities.  

Participants will be guided through examples that identify small, realistic shifts that can be applied across different TAFE contexts, supporting participants to critically reflect on their work communicating gender equality and identify practical opportunities to strengthen inclusive and respectful communication. The session will also touch on considerations for engaging men in gender equality work through communication.

This session is suitable for TAFE staff across communications and marketing, student services and engagement, teaching, and HR, DEI and people and culture, as well as senior leaders and directors.
