Description

Our Watch’s Men in focus community of practice is a national community of practice aimed at building on and expanding the values, knowledge and skills of people working with men and addressing masculinities, for the prevention of men's violence against women.

In a respectful and inclusive space, this community of practice aims to promote:

  • connection and collaboration
  • continued peer-learning on topics related to the Change the story framework
  • sharing and reflection on the enablers and barriers to working with men in the primary prevention of violence against women practice.

This community of practice will build on foundational knowledge to equip participants with the tools and confidence required to implement primary prevention actions in places that they live, work, learn, socialise and play.

Who can participate?

The Men in focus community of practice is aimed at two broad groups:

  • People who are working towards the prevention of men’s violence against women: in non-government organisations, peak bodies, corporate workplaces, family and domestic violence services, community services women’s health and gender equality services, all levels of government.
  • People who are practicing in diverse sectors and settings and undertake prevention activity as part of their broader role: community development workers, those working to address other forms of discrimination and inequality, teachers, human resources, sports administration, journalists, family and domestic violence response and have a working knowledge of the gendered drivers of violence and the primary prevention approach.

Whether you have a dedicated role in violence prevention or wish to enhance your role in other professional settings, this community of practice will enable you to connect, learn and innovate.

How will the program run?

Our Watch will coordinate and support an online community of practice over 8 online sessions. Each session will run for 90 minutes with topics for discussion being guided by participants themselves.

The community of practice sessions will be facilitated through a combination of online learning and collaboration methods, including:

  • group discussions
  • resource-sharing spaces
  • facilitated reflective practice
  • activities informed by adult learning principles.
