Submission on Wiyi Yani U Thangani Framework for Action and First Nations Gender Justice Institute

This submission is to the Australian Human Rights Commission on the design of the Wiyi Yani U Thangani Framework for Action for First Nations Gender Justice and Equality, and the establishment of a First Nations Gender Justice Institute.

Our Watch’s submission focused on questions under the theme ‘Measuring Change Outcomes’. Drawing on evidence from Changing the picture (2018), it outlines a primary prevention approach to violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. It also draws on Counting on change (2017), Putting the prevention of violence against women into practice: How to Change the story (2017) and Tracking progress in prevention (2020) to share evidence and principles in data, measurement and evaluation that may guide work under the Framework for Action.

This submission was developed in consultation with Our Watch’s internal Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Steering Committee, which brings together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Board members, staff, and other key organisational representatives to consider and provide advice on Our Watch’s work in relation to violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.
