Cracking the code to gender equality

March 7, 2023 / Our Watch media team

While women comprise almost half of all of Australia’s labour force, they continue to be under-represented in traditionally male-dominated industries and in managerial positions across industries.

Women hold 14.6 per cent of chair positions and 28.1 per cent of directorships and represent 18.3 per cent of CEOs and 32.5 per cent of key management personnel.

The 2023 MIMCO and Our Watch campaign, which launches this International Women’s Day on 8 March, encourages everyone to consider how we can help women advance in their careers by providing equal opportunities, nurture the next generation of women leaders and ensure diversity is accepted in all workplaces.

Since the partnership’s inception in 2016, MIMCO has raised more than $1.6 million to help support Our Watch’s work and bring awareness to the importance of gender equality in the prevention of violence against women and their children. The funding will enable Our Watch to continue their work across media, workplaces, schools, universities, TAFEs and all levels of government.

MIMCO’s Managing Director, Sarah Rovis, said “At Mimco, our mission is to be an accessory to empowerment. Through our long-standing partnership with Our Watch, we continue to use our channels to raise awareness of the incredibly important work Our Watch does in creating equality for women.”

“This year marks our eighth year of partnership with Our Watch, and once again our partnership ensures the conversation around equality continues, while providing important funding for efforts to help drive long-term change.”

The CEO of Our Watch, Patty Kinnersly, said that gender equality in workplaces looks like women being involved in decision making, fair and equal pay, and a seat at the table for women leaders, particularly women from marginalised groups.

“A workplace where diversity is meaningfully embraced is a safer and more equal one for all women”.
