Our Watch releases practical how-to guide for preventing violence against women

June 06 2017 By Hannah Grant, Our Watch Media Manager

Our Watch has today released a new Handbook, Putting the prevention of violence against women into practice, to make prevention of violence against women straight forward in your workplace, community organisation or sporting club.

The Handbook is a how-to guide to support the world-first framework for the prevention of violence against women, Change the story: A shared framework for the primary prevention of violence against women and their children in Australia, launched in November 2015.

Putting the prevention of violence against women into practice has been written for a diverse range of individuals who are engaged in activities that aim to prevent violence against women and their children.

With step-by step guides and templates, the Handbook provides practical ‘on-the-ground’ action for prevention across a number of settings.

This work is crucial to support Our Watch’s role as a backbone organisation, enabling others to do quality prevention work in NGOs, workplaces, schools and sports clubs – in all areas where people live, work and play.

If you or your organisation would like a copy of Putting the prevention of violence against women into practice, you can download it here. For best user experience we recommend downloading the Handbook to your computer and opening in Adobe Reader.

A four-page summary of the Handbook is also available.

About Our Watch

Our Watch’s purpose is to raise awareness and engage policy-makers and the Australian community in action to prevent violence against women and their children.

To do this the organisation works to increase gender equality and respect in all aspects of everyday life, such as through schools; workplaces; media; sporting organisations; social marketing, and developing and influencing public policy.

Our Watch’s work derives from the government’s commitment to the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010 – 2022 and gives expression to many of the activities in the Second Action Plan 2013–2016 – Moving Ahead.
