Our Watch has made a submission to the Australian Human Rights Commission’s National Inquiry into Sexual Harassment in Australian Workplaces.

The inquiry involves an in-depth examination of sexual harassment in the workplace, nation-wide consultation and extensive research.

As an organisation focused on primary prevention, Our Watch’s submission focuses on the underlying drivers of workplace sexual harassment.

Like all forms of violence against women, sexual harassment is driven by gender inequality and the structures, norms, attitudes and practices that perpetuate it.

Our Watch’s submission makes specific recommendations for measures and good practices that will address the drivers of sexual harassment, creating the kinds of social change across our society that will help stop it before it starts.

The submission also draws on Change the story: a shared framework for the primary prevention of violence against women and their children in Australia which is informed by international evidence and extensive consultation on what drives and contributes to the prevalence of violence against women.

Our Watch looks forward to the outcomes of this world-leading national inquiry.
